Duo Shidai has it’s base in China at the moment and the members are: Ögmundur Þór (Thor) Jóhannesson Gitarr and Michael Neumann flute.
Thor and Michael met in Chongqing China and had their first Concert together there in March 2017. Since then they have been playing together on a regular basis. A CD recording is planned for Autumn 2019.

Michael Neumann is a Flute Player and conductor from Sweden. Born in Germany. After studying five years at the University College of Music Education in Stockholm (3 years flute major and 2 years of conducting) he studied with Gerard Schaub (principal flute Gothenburg Symphony and professor at Gothenburg university) and William Bennett (Royal Academy of Music, London as well as many master classes with Trevor Wye, Alain Marion, Peter
Lloyd (Guildhall, London), Ornulf Gullbrantsen… and many more.
Michael’s main interest lies in Chamber music. He has performed in many different constellations with piano, guitar, Harp, flute and strings… He is also interested in contempary music and has studied comtempoary music with some of the most famous experts in Sweden like Peter Schuback, Kristine Scholz and Mats Person. This resulted in many first performances of new music and some recordings at the Swedish Radio and TV.
Michael is also interested in Teaching and has been working as a flute teacher, conductor and Band leader at the municipal music school in Nyköping, high school music program and Bollnäs Folkhögskola (precollege education) .
Michael has performed in many countries in Europe and also the USA, China and Japan.
Ögmundur ﬁór Jóhannesson was born in Reykjavík 1980. He began to study the classical guitar at the age of 10, and finished his music studies in Iceland with honors in may 2000.He made private studies at the “Escola Luthier d’arts musical“ in Barcelona, Spain from 2000-2002 with Arnaldur Arnarsson, Ricardo Jesús Gallén, Alex Garrobé and Sadahiro Otani amongst others.
He graduated in June 2008 from Mozarteum University in Salzburg, Austria. There, under the guidance of Marco Diaz-Tamayo, he finished his Bachelors and Masters Degree with honors.
He took further lessons with Carlo Marchione in Maastricht Conservatory in Holland, and received a second Masters Degree.
He has taken various master courses with Aniello Desiderio, Costas Cotsiolis, Joaquín Clerch, Thomas Müller Pering, Pavel Steidl, Manuel Barrueco and David Russell, amongst others.
He has received various awards and recognitions and became prizewinner in Tokyo and Bangkok international guitar competitions in November 2011. He received the sought-after Icelandic Artist Salary Grant for 9 months from the Icelandic government for 2010, a grant from the Icelandic Rotary Movement in January 2009, Jean Pierre Jaquillat Institution in 2005 and 2 other artistic awards that same year from Iceland. In 2003 he became winner at the “Agustin Barrios” International guitar competition in Lambesc, France.
He has been invited to perform at various music festivals and concerts in
Iceland (Tíbrá 2005 and 2008, TUF2012, Nordic Music Days 2011, Dark
Music Days 2010), Brazil (BRAVIO, WGC 2012), USA (Mostly Nordic Chamber Music Series, Seattle, Scandinavian Foundation NYC), Israel (Guitar Gems Festival 2011 with Israel Kibbutz Orchestra), Chile (Festival Entrecuerdas 2012 with TRM Orchestra), Indonesia (Valerio Guitar
Festival 2015 and 2016), Malaysia (Malaysia Tarrega Guitar Festival 2014 and 2015), Vietnam (Saigon Guitar Festival 2014), Russia (Kirov Guitar Festival 2014), Myanmar (Myanmar Guitar Festival 2017) Japan (Gendai Guitar 2014), China (Guotai Theatre Chongqing 2015, Shenyang guitar festival 2016), Hong Kong (HK Guitar Festival 2017), Taiwan, India (Blue Frog, Mumbai), England, France, Austria (Fratres and Trigonale festivals 2007), Spain and Germany (Nordhorn and Passauer Saiten guitar festivals in 2016).
He has also taught masterclasses in Iceland Academy of Arts, Washington University, Manhattan School of Music, Catholic University of Santiago de Chile, Silpakorn University in Bangkok, Xinghai Conservatory in Guangzhou and Tianjin Conservatory.
He received excellent critics for both of his solo recitals for the Tíbrá
Concert Series in Iceland in 2005 and 2008 from mbl.is : “…Ögmundur is an astonishing guitarist”, “…technical security… emotional depth…convincing… with fire… guitarist of great expectation…”
He is artistic director of the Midnight Sun Guitar Festival in Reykjavik,
Iceland. He is one of the co- founders of the Global Guitar Institute, as well as one of active core members of the Worldwide Guitar Connections team.
